Alexandra Jaik holds a Master of Arts in Sociocultural Studies from Europa-Universität Viadrina (2010-2014) and a Bachelor of Arts in European Studies from Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (2007-2010). She also studied International Migration and Ethnic Relations at Malmö University in 2009/2010. Currently, she is a Research Associate at Hochschule Bochum since 2015 and conducts research in the Integrative Institute for Sustainable Development LaNE within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Her work focuses on sustainable social practices, collaborative economy models, and urban sustainability.
Her research explores common goods systems, degrowth theories, and social innovation in urban contexts. Key projects include analyzing the emergence and stabilization of neighborhood-based sharing initiatives like library-of-things models. She has presented at high-profile conferences such as the International Degrowth Conference (Malmö 2018) and the International Conference on Sustainability Transitions (Göteborg 2017).
Her current funded dissertation project, supported by the NRW Ministry of Innovation, investigates sustainable consumption practices in urban districts. This interdisciplinary work combines qualitative methods with institutional analysis to understand how collaborative consumption systems develop and spread within communities.
