Alexandra Fisher is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh, affiliated with the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences. Previously, she held roles at the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership (Australian National University) and the University of Exeter. Her research focuses on gender and social inequalities in work and relationships, often addressing intersectional challenges.
Research Interests: Using mixed methods, she explores how gender role norms perpetuate inequalities, challenges stereotypes about singlehood, and investigates the impact of societal shifts on interpersonal well-being. Her work spans cross-cultural contexts and intersects with policy-making.
Knowledge Exchange: Collaborations include partnerships with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (Australia). Currently, she co-leads a project funded by Australia’s eSafety Commissioner to develop interventions against technology-facilitated abuse targeting women and gender-diverse individuals.
Academic Contributions: Recent publications examine heterosexual relationship dynamics, gendered labor divisions, and pandemic-era inequalities. These studies emphasize the interplay between macro-level societal norms and micro-level interpersonal experiences.
