Alexandra Effe is a Research Fellow at the University of Oslo's Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages, affiliated with the Centre for Literature, Cognition and Emotions (LCE). She holds a PhD from Queen Mary University of London and a venia legendi from Giessen University (2024). Her research focuses on autofiction, cognitive poetics, and the intersection of literature with life sciences and postcolonial studies.
Education includes studies in English and Psychology at the University of Freiburg. She coordinated a PhD program in Literary and Cultural Studies at Giessen (2016-2017) and was a visiting fellow at Oxford's Centre for Life-Writing. Current projects explore autofictional cognitive poetics across centuries, combining narrative theory with cognitive psychology.
Teaching includes courses on narrative theory, world literature, and illness narratives. She co-edits Routledge and Palgrave volumes on autofiction and serves on interdisciplinary initiatives like LCE. Research groups include Creativity and Crises and NEAM (Novel and Epic, Ancient and Modern).
