Alexandra Basekic (pen name: Alexandra Oliver) is an Instructor in the Faculty of Arts & Science at OCAD University. She holds an M.A. in Drama from the University of Toronto, an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Southern Maine's Stonecoast program, and a Ph.D. in English from McMaster University.
Her research and creative work focus on poetry, literary studies, and dramatic arts. Notable publications include three poetry collections: Meeting the Tormentors in Safeway (2013, Pat Lowther Memorial Award winner), Let the Empire Down (2016), and Hail, the Invisible Watchman (2022). She also co-edited Measure for Measure: An Anthology of Poetic Meters (2015) and contributed to the libretto From the Diaries of William Lyon Mackenzie King, performed in Toronto in 2017.
Her creative work emphasizes themes like identity, social critique, and experimental form. Awards include the Pat Lowther Memorial Award for her 2013 collection. She has performed at CBC Radio, NPR, and major literary festivals.
