Cristal Buemi is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Art at OCAD University. A Puerto Rican Canadian artist based in Toronto, she holds a BA from Toronto Metropolitan University and an MA from Bau, Design College of Barcelona.
Research Interests: Her practice combines stop motion animation, video art, photography, collage, and digital design to explore materiality, sustainability, and abstract storytelling through natural and recycled materials. Her work emphasizes ecological themes and experimental techniques.
Community & Pedagogy: She co-founded Frame by Frame, a research initiative providing accessible stop motion animation opportunities for participants of all abilities. Her teaching philosophy prioritizes safe, flexible learning environments, collaborating with organizations like TIFF, SKETCH, and the Toronto District School Board.
