Alexandra Barradas

Alexandra Barradas serves as a Professor of Communication Design at the School of Communication, Architecture, Arts and Information Technology (ECATI) within Lusófona University, where she simultaneously pursues her PhD in Communication Sciences. Her professional background includes extensive industry experience as a designer and art director in advertising agencies and studios, bridging academic theory with practical creative execution.

Her educational journey comprises:

• Bachelor's degree in Communication Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon
• Master's degree in Multimedia Communication Systems
• Ongoing PhD in Communication Sciences at Lusófona University

Her research critically examines intersectionality in media landscapes, focusing on power dynamics, subjectivity, and representation through interdisciplinary Communication Design frameworks. This manifests in projects analyzing cultural figures like Joacine Katar Moreira, where she investigates how media narratives intersect with identity politics and social structures.

As a core researcher in the IM Lab (Intersectionality Media Lab), she contributed to the CICANT Seedfunded project (April 2021–September 2022) that pioneered case studies on media representation through intersectional lenses. Her work demonstrates consistent engagement with research funding mechanisms while advancing collaborative knowledge production.

Alexandra operates within the Intersectionality Media Lab ecosystem, a specialized research environment dedicated to deconstructing media power structures through intersectional methodologies. This lab serves as her primary scholarly hub for developing critical media analysis frameworks and mentoring emerging researchers in communication studies.
