Alexandra Alicke

Dr. Alexandra Alicke is an Assistant Professor in the Processing and Performance group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), affiliated with the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems and her own research group, Group Alicke. Her expertise lies in the interplay between structure and mechanical properties in soft materials, particularly focusing on interfacial rheology in multiphase systems such as emulsions and foams. She holds a PhD from ETH Zurich (2021) and prior academic roles at PUC-Rio, where she also earned her B.Sc. (2011) and M.Sc. (2013) in Mechanical Engineering. Notably, she received three academic excellence awards during her undergraduate studies.

Her research explores how processing conditions influence the stability of soft materials, with applications spanning biomedical, food, and energy sectors. Key areas include designing interfacial properties for stability (e.g., food products) and destabilization mechanisms for targeted drug delivery or electrocoalescence. She collaborates with academic and industrial partners, including Statoil and Petrobras, and has been supported by grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Norwegian Research Council’s JIP Electrocoalescence Consortium.

Alicke’s work integrates experimental rheology (both bulk and interfacial) with microstructural analysis, addressing both fundamental science and industrial challenges. She supervises BSc and MSc thesis projects on rheology, material processing, and experimental design, fostering innovation in soft materials engineering.

Her scientific awards include three academic excellence awards during her B.Sc. at PUC-Rio. Grants and collaborations have been pivotal, with funding from institutions like ETH Zurich and the Norwegian Research Council. She leads the Group Alicke at TU/e, focusing on advancing the understanding of elastoviscoplastic interfaces and their technological applications.
