Alexander Yankov

Professor Alexander Yankov is a renowned Bulgarian jurist affiliated with Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", where he has held the Chair of International Law and International Relations since 1973. He served as a corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) from 1981 and held leadership roles in its Section of International Law and International Relations (1988-1989). His career spans academia, diplomacy, and international legal institutions.

Yankov's research focuses on international law, maritime law, and international relations, particularly through his work on the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Notable honors include the Order of Saints Cyril and Methodius (First Class) and the Doctor Honoris Causa from Burgas Free University (1999). He has been a member of numerous international organizations, such as the American Society of International Law (since 1966) and the Permanent Court of Arbitration (1971-1988).
