Dr. Alexander Swan is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Eureka College, where he has held the position since 2022, following his tenure as Assistant Professor from 2017 to 2022. He is affiliated with the Social Science and Business Division and holds a Ph.D. in Psychological & Brain Sciences from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2016), an M.A. in Experimental Psychology from California State University, Northridge (2011), and a B.A. in Psychology from the same institution (2008).
His research focuses on cognitive biases, pseudoscientific beliefs (e.g., Myers-Briggs Type Indicator), and the application of Hollywood films in psychology education. He is the creator of the CinemaPsych Podcast and an active content creator on YouTube, emphasizing science communication and educational resources.
Dr. Swan’s teaching spans courses like Research Methods, Cognitive Psychology, and Statistics, and he has advised multiple honors theses. He has received grants from the Society for the Teaching of Psychology and awards such as the Contribution to Excellence in Teaching Award (2016).
He serves on Eureka College’s Institutional Review Board (IRB), Title IX Team, and chairs the Psychology-Sociology Club. His lab, the Reasoning and Decision-Making (RAD-M) Lab, explores topics like cognitive biases and decision-making processes.
Notable professional activities include presenting at conferences like the Midwestern Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science, as well as editorial roles for journals like Psychological Research and the Society for the Teaching of Psychology.
