Professor Alexander V. Sergienko is a faculty member at Boston University's Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Department of Physics, affiliated with the Photonics Center. He holds a PhD from Moscow State University (1987). His research focuses on quantum optics, quantum information processing, quantum metrology, and photonic technologies. He has pioneered work on entanglement manipulation, quantum imaging, and ultra-precise optical measurements.
Research Interests: Quantum state engineering, quantum cryptography, quantum bio-photonics, and integrated photonics. His lab develops novel devices for quantum communication, sensing, and imaging, including nanophotonic waveguide systems and entangled photon sources.
Publications highlight advancements in topological quantum states, quantum walks, and high-dimensional entanglement applications. Awards include the NSF CAREER Award (1999) and Optical Society of America Fellowship. He advises students in quantum photonics and related fields, with notable former members contributing to academia and industry.
Teaching includes courses on quantum optics (EC762/764) and advanced photonics. Collaborations span global institutions like NIST, University of Geneva, and University of Vienna. His work is supported by DARPA, NSF, and industry partners.
