Alexander Munteanu is a researcher at the Faculty of Statistics, Department of Statistics, Technical University of Dortmund. He serves as a founding member and managing director of the TU Dortmund Center for Data Science & Simulation (DoDaS). Previously, he was a PI in the collaborative research center SFB 876 (completed 2022) and currently leads the interdisciplinary research area From Prediction to Agile Interventions in the Social Sciences (FAIR).
- PhD in Theoretical Computer Science (2018), TU Dortmund University
His research focuses on algorithm design and analysis for massive data and high dimensionality challenges, spanning machine learning theory, randomized numerical linear algebra, streaming/distributed algorithms, computational geometry, and convex optimization. He develops methods for regression, Bayesian modeling, and geometric problems with applications in social sciences and data science.
Selected recent trends include:
- Advancements in ℓₚ leverage score sampling for regression problems
- Scalable Bayesian inference techniques for generalized models
- Geometric algorithms for time series and high-dimensional data
Teaching activities include lectures on statistical learning, randomized algorithms, and seminars on data science foundations at both TU Dortmund and University of Cologne.
