Dr. Alexander J.G. Lunt is a Senior Lecturer in Micromechanical Testing at the University of Bath's Department of Mechanical Engineering. He co-directs the Integrated Materials Processing and Structures Research Centre and holds affiliate roles with the Centre for Integrated Materials, Processes & Structures (IMPS), IAAPS, and the Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change. Dr. Lunt completed his MEng and PhD at the University of Oxford, followed by a senior fellowship at CERN, where he established their first micromechanical testing laboratory. His research focuses on microscale mechanical techniques, synchrotron/neutron diffraction, and industrial collaborations with partners like Rolls-Royce and Airbus. He has authored over 90 papers (H-index 21) and secured numerous awards, including the EPSRC Scholarship and GKN Award. His group comprises 11 PhD students and 2 postdocs.

His work bridges academia and industry, addressing challenges in material design, process optimization, and sustainable manufacturing. He is composites/polymer lead for Elsevier’s Materials & Design and UK user lead for Diamond Light Source’s microscopy initiatives.
