Alexander J. van der Horst

Alexander J. van der Horst is an Associate Professor of Physics and Chair of the Department of Physics at George Washington University. He is located at 409 Corcoran Hall, 725 21st Street NW, Washington, DC 20052. His research focuses on multi-wavelength observations and computational modeling of high-energy cosmic transient phenomena, including gamma-ray bursts, gravitational wave sources, magnetars, and tidal disruption events. He is also the Project Scientist of SCORPIO, an optical/near-infrared instrument on the Gemini Observatory.

Dr. van der Horst has supervised approximately ten graduate students and twenty-five undergraduate students across his research areas. He actively engages in astronomy and physics outreach to foster community interest in science. His teaching includes courses such as 'Origins of the Cosmos,' 'Introduction to Modern Astrophysics,' and 'Physics Capstone.'
