Alexander Hubig

Alexander Hubig is a PhD student in the Department of Hydrogeology at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ since September 2022. Previously, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Environmental Physics, University of Heidelberg (April–July 2022). His research focuses on eutrophication dynamics in rivers, large-scale data analysis, and biogeochemical processes in freshwater ecosystems.

Education:

• M.Sc. in Physics from University of Heidelberg (2020–2022), with a thesis on simulating radiocarbon variability in speleothems using Earth system models
• B.Sc. in Physics (2015–2020) and Geosciences (2012–2015) from University of Heidelberg
• Study abroad at Tohoku University, Japan (2017–2018)

His work aligns with UFZ’s research program on water resources and environmental sustainability, emphasizing catchment hydrology and aquatic ecosystem analysis.
