Prof. Dr. Alexander Himme is Dean of Programs and Associate Professor of Management Accounting at Kühne Logistics University (KLU) in Hamburg, Germany. He joined KLU in 2015 after holding academic positions at Vlerick Business School (Belgium) and as Post-Doc at Universities of Cologne and Passau. His international experience includes Visiting Scholar positions at Stanford University and UCLA. Himme holds a PhD in Management Accounting and Marketing from the University of Kiel, where he also completed his Diploma in Business Administration. He received his Habilitation from the University of Cologne in 2014.
His research focuses on the intersection of accounting and marketing, specializing in performance measurement, valuation of intangibles (brands, customer equity, corporate reputation), marketing accounting, and cost management. His work examines how non-financial metrics impact accounting outcomes, particularly the cost of capital and financial performance. Key research streams include: the financial impact of market share in digital economies; corporate communication strategies during layoffs; and the relationship between brand investments and financial health.
Analysis of his publications reveals strong interdisciplinary focus bridging accounting and marketing, with methodological expertise in meta-analysis, econometric modeling, and large-scale empirical validation. Recent work explores digital transformation's impact on traditional business metrics, demonstrating how digitalization alters fundamental relationships like market share-profitability. His research consistently addresses practical managerial challenges with rigorous empirical frameworks.
