Alexander Gardner is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Comparative Studies in Literature and Culture at Occidental College. He joined the faculty in 2021 and holds degrees from the University of California, Irvine (B.A.) and Yale University (M.A., Ph.D.).
- Education: B.A. from UC Irvine; M.A. and Ph.D. from Yale University.
His research focuses on 19th and 20th-century German literature, particularly aesthetic responses to modernity, experimental poetry, fairy tales, and quotation as a literary device. He teaches courses on Grimms’ Fairy Tales and German film history, emphasizing interactive exercises and critical engagement with German literature.
Outside teaching, Gardner is involved in music creation and performance. His office hours are M/W 4:10-5:40 pm and TU 4:45-5:45 pm, or by appointment, located in Johnson Hall 109.
