Rhenish Friedrich Wilhelm University of Bonnمعرفی
Prof. Alexander Filippou is a Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Bonn, leading the working group in molecular and organometallic chemistry within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. He specializes in the chemistry of transition metal-tetrel triple bonds, low-oxidation-state silicon compounds, and quantum chemical analysis of novel chemical bonds. His research focuses on synthesizing and characterizing reactive molecules involving silicon, germanium, and transition metals, with applications in materials science and catalysis.
Key areas of research include the stabilization of highly reactive silicon compounds through N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs), exploring their reactivity and structural dynamics. Collaborations involve advanced computational methods to elucidate electronic structures and predict reactivity trends. The group’s work has led to groundbreaking discoveries, such as planar tetracoordinated silicon and metal-silicon triple bonds, published in top journals like J. Am. Chem. Soc. and Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.
Prof. Filippou’s team is based at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry (Gerhard-Domagk-Straße 1, Bonn), with theoretical support from the Mulliken Center for Theoretical Chemistry. They collaborate on interdisciplinary projects within the Transdisciplinary Research Area (TRA) MATTER. Contact details include filippou@uni-bonn.de and akfilipp@uni-bonn.de.
