Alexander Dumfort

Alexander Dumfort is an academic affiliated with the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (doctoral studies since 2018) and the MCI (Management Center Innsbruck), where he lectures in General and Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Chemistry of Renewable Resources. His research focuses on sustainable chemical processes, bioenergy production, hydrothermal carbonization, and the valorization of biomass and wastewater. He has received notable awards including the Ars-Docendi Shortlist Award (2019) and a teaching award from MCI (2016).

Education: Mag. in Chemistry (University of Innsbruck, 1994–2004), HTBLA Wels Diploma in Chemical Engineering (1989–1994).

Research interests include converting waste materials into energy-dense products via hydrothermal carbonization, synthesizing platform chemicals like 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), and exploring eco-friendly catalytic processes. His publications span peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, addressing topics such as membrane-based bioenergy systems and photochemical synthesis of organometallic compounds.

Awards highlight his contributions to teaching excellence and scientific innovation. He has supervised numerous students in topics ranging from bioenergy to material synthesis and environmental chemistry. Dumfort also serves on the Executive Committee of the Pakistan-Austria University of Applied Sciences/Institute of Applied Sciences & Technology (PAF-IAST).
