Alexander Dickson is a Professor in Geochemistry at the Department of Earth Sciences, Royal Holloway, University of London. His research focuses on tracing geochemical signatures of past environmental changes, particularly ocean chemistry dynamics during rapid climate shifts and warmer climates. Key themes include non-traditional isotope techniques for redox changes, osmium-isotope tracing of volcanism/weathering, and mercury as a proxy for environmental events.
Research interests span paleoclimatology, isotope geochemistry, and the interactions between metals and organic matter. Recent work addresses ocean deoxygenation, Proterozoic redox dynamics, and geochemical proxies for climate events. His contributions align with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to environmental sustainability.
Active projects include the DISTILL project (2022–2027), exploring organic carbon feedbacks on the global carbon cycle, and V-ECHO (2019–2024), using mercury to trace volcanic triggers of environmental changes. He supervises PhD research in these areas and collaborates internationally on paleoenvironmental studies.
