Dr. Alexander Clymo is a Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of Essex. He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics (2015), an MSc from LSE (2010), and a BSc from the University of Cambridge (2009). His research focuses on macroeconomics, heterogeneous agent modeling, optimal taxation, and macro-finance. He has supervised PhD students Pavlos Balamatsias (awarded 2024) and Veridiana De Andrade Nogueira (awarded 2021). His recent work includes studies on labor markets, fiscal policy, and pandemic impacts. He currently leads a grant on post-COVID unemployment funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (2020).
Research interests include: Macroeconomics, Heterogeneous Agent Modelling, Optimal Taxation, and Macro-Finance. He has published in leading journals like the European Economic Review and Review of Economic Dynamics. His work on labor mobility in the UK during the pandemic (2023) and Spain’s labor market dynamics (2025) highlights his focus on policy-relevant macroeconomic analysis.
