Alexander Bismarck

Professor Alexander Bismarck is a Professor of Polymer Materials in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, part of the Faculty of Engineering. His affiliations include the Fungal Science Network, Science and Engineering Research for Cultural Heritage, The Composites Centre, and leads the Polymer & Composite Engineering (PaCE) Group.

Education:

• Dr. rer.-nat. (PhD) in Chemistry, Technische Universität Berlin (1995-1999)
• Dipl.-Chem., Technische Universität Berlin (1991-1995)

Research Interests: Focuses on multi-disciplinary materials engineering, including fiber-reinforced composites, porous materials, hydrogels, renewable materials, and biomaterials for tissue engineering. Specializes in composite super-capacitors, emulsion templating (polyHIPEs), and the social dimensions of materials research. The PaCE Group develops advanced materials for aerospace, biomedical, and sustainable applications.

Affiliations & Labs: Leads the PaCE Group and contributes to The Composites Centre. Research integrates chemical engineering with macromolecular chemistry and mechanical/aerospace engineering principles.
