Alexander Baklanov is a Scientific Officer at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and an Affiliated Professor at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen. With over 30 years of experience in meteorological and environmental sciences, his work spans integrated weather, climate, and Earth-system research, with a focus on seamless modeling and urban climate theory.
- Education: PhD (1983), Dr. Sci. (1998), and Professor (2008) in Meteorology from Novosibirsk Computing Center and USSR Academy of Sciences.
His research interests include:
- Mesoscale and microscale meteorology
- Chemical weather forecasting
- Atmospheric transport and aerosol dynamics
- Urban climate modeling for sustainable cities
- Seamless coupled Earth system modeling
Recent publications highlight advancements in coupled chemistry-meteorology modeling, urban climate services, and integrated systems for air quality and climate. These works emphasize interdisciplinary approaches and computational frameworks.
Scientific recognition includes:
- Fellow of the Pan-Eurasian Experiment (PEEX)
- Gold Medal of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences
- Academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences
- Honorary Professor titles and Visiting Professorships
He has supervised 10 PhD dissertations and led large-scale projects like EU FP7 MEGAPOLI and FP5 FUMAPEX, with cumulative budgets exceeding 20 million Euros. As Editor-in-Chief of Urban Climate, he drives global discourse on urban environmental systems.
