Dr. Alexa B. Silver serves as a Professor in the History Department at Delaware State University, where she has been a faculty member since 2005. Her academic work centers on colonial American history with regional expertise in the Chesapeake area.

Dr. Silver's research critically examines labor systems including indentured servitude and slavery in colonial America, while also exploring transnational narratives through her family research on the 1930s Shanghai International Settlement and WWII Japanese Internment experiences. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges historical scholarship with community engagement, particularly through partnerships with local history organizations where she develops educational programming and curriculum materials. Recent publications demonstrate her expanding focus on DE&I initiatives in HBCU educational settings and historical perspectives on public health crises.
Dr. Silver has secured significant external funding including a $1,050,000 Howard Hughes Medical Institute Inclusive Excellence Grant (2016-2022) where she served as Program Director. Her community leadership extends to roles such as Chair of the Chestertown Historic District Commission (2015-2020) and current Board Member for the Friends of John Dickinson Plantation. She actively collaborates with K-12 educators through Teaching American History grant programs and serves on advisory councils for historic preservation organizations including Friends of Mt. Harmon.
