Professor Alex Wade is a member of the Department of Psychology at the University of York. He holds a BA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge (1994) and a PhD in Neuroscience from University College London. His career includes postdoctoral work at Stanford University and a tenure as Principal Investigator at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute in San Francisco before joining York in 2011.

His research focuses on visual attention, neural processing of color and contrast, and the impact of neurological diseases on these processes. Professor Wade has created widely used tools like vischeck.com for simulating color blindness, endorsed by federal agencies such as NOAA and the United States Geological Survey. He is an active member of organizations including the Optical Society of America and Society for Neuroscience.
His work has been featured in media including BBC documentaries and Esquire Magazine, particularly his collaborations with recovered sight patient Mike May.
