Alex Rogers is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Oxford and Co-Director of the Autonomous Intelligent Machines and Systems Centre for Doctoral Training. His research applies AI and machine learning to physical sensor systems for sustainability challenges, including energy management and biodiversity conservation.
Current projects develop smart building energy optimization, low-cost acoustic monitoring devices (AudioMoth), and citizen science platforms for environmental data collection. Rogers collaborates globally on conservation technology initiatives, deploying sensor networks for wildlife monitoring and ecosystem assessment.
Research emphasizes:
- AI-driven analysis of sensor data for energy efficiency
- Decentralized algorithms for smart grid optimization
- Edge computing for conservation technology
- Participatory sensing platforms
He leads the development of open-source hardware including AudioMoth acoustic recorders used in over 100 countries for biodiversity monitoring. Rogers teaches computer architecture and supervises graduate students in AI applications for sustainable systems.
