Dr. Alex Povitsky is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Akron's College of Engineering and Polymer Science. Joining in 2003, he brings expertise from his prior senior research scientist role at NASA Langley Research Center (now National Institute of Aerospace).
- Education: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (1988, Moscow), Postdoctoral work in Aerospace Engineering (1994, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology), B.Sc./M.Sc. in Metallurgical Engineering (1984, Moscow Institute for Steel Alloys).
His research spans computational aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and micro-fluidics, with applications in aerospace engineering and aeroacoustics. He has contributed to 50+ journal publications.
- Scientific Recognition: Associate Fellow of AIAA (2016)
- Collaborations: 12 Summer Faculty Fellowships with Air Force Research Laboratory (2005-2019)
Dr. Povitsky teaches courses in Fluid Dynamics, Numerical Methods, and Micro/Nano-Fluid Dynamics, and is affiliated with the university's 3D Printing Lab and Tire Mechanics Short Course initiatives.
