Seongkyu Lee is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Davis. His research focuses on aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), with applications to rotorcraft, wind energy, and urban air mobility (UAM). He leads the Computational Flow Physics and Aeroacoustics (CFPA) Lab, which develops advanced CFD tools like UCD-QuietFly for predicting rotorcraft noise. His work aims to advance green aviation and renewable energy through fundamental flow physics studies and noise reduction strategies.
Lee's research is supported by grants from NASA, the U.S. Army, Hyundai Motor Company, and Lawrence Livermore National Lab. Notable achievements include the AIAA Associate Fellow designation (2022), Hellman Fellowship (2018), and UC Davis Graduate Advising Award (2021). He advises the Vertical Flight Society (VFS) student chapter and serves as a faculty advisor for the ASME undergraduate club.
Key projects include optimizing rotorcraft aerodynamics, reducing eVTOL noise, and improving wind turbine efficiency. His lab collaborates with industry partners like Hyundai and Supernal, and his students have received VFF scholarships and best paper awards. Lee’s contributions span academic leadership, innovation in CFD tools, and mentoring the next generation of aerospace engineers.
