Alex Olmos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science at Christopher Newport University (CNU). His research focuses on neuromuscular physiology, muscle function, and exercise adaptations, with particular emphasis on resistance training, blood flow restriction, and sex-related differences in muscle performance. Olmos holds a BS and MS in Exercise Science from Kennesaw State University.
Education:
- MS in Applied Exercise and Health Science, Kennesaw State University
- BS in Exercise Science, Kennesaw State University
Research interests include neuromuscular adaptations to training, mechanisms of muscle fatigue, and the physiological effects of blood flow restriction. His work also examines neuromuscular control in aging populations and gender-specific responses to exercise interventions. Recent studies explore how yoga influences musculoskeletal health and upper body endurance in healthy adults.
His publications highlight trends in evaluating novel training modalities (e.g., BFR, yoga), analyzing motor unit behavior, and refining exercise assessment technologies. He has contributed to understanding the interplay between muscle morphology, strength, and functional performance across diverse populations.
No scientific awards are listed. Advising/Grants: No formal advisees listed, though actively involved in mentoring undergraduate research projects. Lab/Teams: Collaborates with CNU’s Exercise Physiology lab and interdisciplinary teams studying age-related muscle function.
