Alex Mabe is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University. He holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Florida State University (1981) and has maintained continuous academic and clinical engagement since the early 1980s.
His research and scholarship focus on recovery-oriented psychiatric care, child psychiatry, ADHD management, and the role of peer specialists in mental health systems. He led Project GREAT, a nationally recognized initiative in psychiatric education that earned the American College of Psychiatrists’ award for creativity in teaching.
His recent publications (2013–2015) reflect a strong commitment to improving mental health systems, particularly in Georgia, with an emphasis on psychometrics, recovery measurement, and institutional transformation. These works span clinical, educational, and policy domains.

Alex Mabe has served on numerous academic and clinical committees, including the Child Psychiatry Training Committee and Psychology Residency Core Committee, for over three decades. He has contributed to institutional self-studies, risk management, and library development. His service extends to professional organizations such as the American Psychological Association and Georgia Psychological Association, as well as community initiatives like Miracle Making Ministries and bereavement support groups.
He is actively involved in medical education, teaching courses such as Child Psychiatry, and mentoring through advisory groups for medical students and psychology residents. His work bridges clinical practice, education, and systemic reform in mental health.
