Dr Alex Louise Pearl is an ESRC Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Law at the University of Leeds. Her research focuses on disability law, financial inclusion, and sociolegal frameworks supporting adults with cognitive impairments. She holds a PhD from the University of Leeds, where she also earned two first-class degrees (LLB and LLM). Pearl is actively involved in the Centre for Disability Studies (CDS) and the Centre for Law and Social Justice (CLSJ), contributing to policy engagement and participatory research initiatives.
Her work bridges academic theory and real-world impact, including co-editing a forthcoming book on East Asian disability rights and leading Project Nemo to address financial exclusion. She has published in top-tier journals and contributed to parliamentary consultations. Pearl teaches legal capacity modules at Master’s level and supervises undergraduate research in equality law.
Awarded prestigious scholarships and fellowships, she sits on the CDS Executive Committee and the Board of Ability Beyond Borders. Her research emphasizes the capabilities approach, intersectional legal analysis, and collaboration with disabled communities to advance human rights frameworks.
