Alex Kutt is an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Science and Technology, associated with the Research Institute for Environment and Livelihoods. He serves as Director of Ecosystem Management at the Department of Environment, Parks, and Water Security (DEPWS), based at the CSIRO complex in Berrimah. His work focuses on landscape and wildlife ecology, particularly in tropical savanna rangelands, with expertise in threatened species conservation, monitoring methods, and climate change impacts. Kutt has collaborated with consultancies like GHD, NGOs such as Bush Heritage, and government agencies including CSIRO and Queensland’s Department of Environment. He leads projects like the NESP Resilient Landscapes Hub and partners in an ARC Linkage Project addressing eastern quoll declines.
Research interests span species ecology, conservation planning, and the effects of invasive species, fire regimes, and climate change. Key projects include reviewing NT Parks' monitoring programs and studying the Night Parrot and other endangered species. His recent work emphasizes camera trapping innovations and biodiversity assessments in arid ecosystems.
Notable achievements include contributions to the PREDICTS database on biodiversity responses to environmental changes and studies on feral cat behavior impacting Night Parrot habitats. Collaborations span global researchers, and his work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to biodiversity and climate action.
