Dr. Alex Gavino is a Senior Learning Facilitator in Public Health (Digital Health) at Torrens University Australia and a member of the Centre for Healthy Futures (CHeF). He holds a PhD from the University of New South Wales and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of the Philippines Manila. His expertise spans digital health informatics, telehealth, public and rural health, clinical trials, and community screening for cardiovascular conditions. Prior roles include Clinical Research Manager at Australian Medical Research and Research Scientist at Singapore Management University’s iCity Lab, where he developed smart home systems for aging populations.
Dr. Gavino’s research focuses on leveraging technology to improve healthcare access in underserved areas, such as the RxBox telemedicine device for geographically isolated regions. His work also emphasizes cardiovascular health, including studies on atrial fibrillation and hypertension in rural populations. He has contributed to global health initiatives, including the Big Ararat Health Study data and biobank, and has coordinated digital health programs like the Telehealth Services for Rural Doctors in the Philippines.
His recent research includes carotid stiffness assessment, dengue fever studies, and low back pain interventions. He has collaborated internationally, addressing challenges in low-resource healthcare settings through clinical decision support systems and SMS-based telemedicine programs. Dr. Gavino’s contributions align with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health equity and innovation.
