Alex Flagg is a Tutor in the School of Art History at the University of St Andrews, where she teaches AH1001: Art in Europe and Beyond to 1600 while pursuing her doctoral studies. Her academic affiliation centers on Ethiopian art historical research within Scotland's premier arts institution.
Her educational trajectory includes a Master of Letters in Art History (2023-2024) and a Master of Arts in Art History and English (2019-2023), both completed at the University of St Andrews, establishing her foundation in interdisciplinary art scholarship.
Flagg's research interrogates the religious art and material culture of Ethiopia through early modern manuscripts, emphasizing postcolonial approaches to provenance and collection histories. Her doctoral project analyzes Ethiopian manuscripts in Edinburgh collections to expose historical knowledge networks between Scotland and Ethiopia, while her conference presentations address European colonial impacts on African hagiography and documentation practices.
