His research interests revolve around the intersections of graphic and figurative elements in painting, alongside the role of surface, color, and scale. He challenges traditional painting conventions by integrating economical figuration and subtle visual critiques. His work investigates how external environments and internal consciousness interact through abstracted imagery derived from daily life, domestic routines, and natural elements like birds, bricks, and trees.
Alex has been recognized with the Freeland Fellowship in Painting (2022) and the Buning Brongers Prijzen (2016). His curatorial activities include organizing projects at MarriottsWay in Norfolk (2017–2022) and contributing to exhibitions such as Backwards Man (2012) and …Freshly as if my eye was still growing (2023). While no formal grants are listed, his Fellowship at Manchester Metropolitan University highlights institutional support for his practice. He advises students through his MA Tutor role and has curated collaborative spaces fostering artistic innovation.
