Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanneمعرفی
Alessio Figalli is a renowned mathematician and recipient of the 2018 Fields Medal. He currently holds the position of Professor at ETH Zurich, where he has been since 2016. Prior to this, he served as a full professor at the University of Texas at Austin (promoted in 2011) and held roles at the École Polytechnique (Hadamard Professor) and the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). His research focuses on optimal transport, calculus of variations, partial differential equations, and their applications to geometric problems and physical phenomena such as isoperimetric inequalities (soap bubbles), semigeostrophic equations (clouds), and ice melting models.
Education: Figalli earned a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa (2006) and a PhD from the École Normale Supérieure in Lyon (2007). He has received the R.L. Moore Chair at UT Austin (2013) and the prestigious Fields Medal for his contributions to mathematical analysis and geometry.
No specific articles are listed in the provided texts, but his work emphasizes interdisciplinary applications of optimal transport theory. His awards include the Fields Medal, the highest honor in mathematics, recognizing his groundbreaking research.
