معرفی
Alessandro Oneto is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Trento, Italy, a position he has held since April 2023. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor at the same institution from April 2020 to April 2023. His academic trajectory includes postdoctoral research at Inria Sophia Antipolis Méditerranée (France), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain), and OVGU Magdeburg (Germany) under the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
His educational background encompasses a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Stockholm University (2016), a Master's degree from the University of Genoa (2012), and a Bachelor's degree from the same institution (2010).
- Ph.D. in Mathematics, Stockholm University, Sweden (2016)
- Master's in Mathematics, University of Genoa, Italy (2012)
- Bachelor's in Mathematics, University of Genoa, Italy (2010)
Oneto's research centers on Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry, with specialized focus on algebraic geometric models applied to tensor decompositions and algebraic statistical models. He investigates the interplay between theoretical algebraic geometry and practical applications in data science, particularly examining tensor rank, secant varieties, and Waring-type decompositions through computational algebraic methods.
His recent publications (2019-2025) reveal consistent exploration of tensor space geometry, addressing identifiability, defectivity, and polynomial strength. These works demonstrate synergy between abstract geometric concepts and computational approaches, yielding advances in statistical modeling and optimization theory while extending classical invariant theory.
Scientific recognition includes:
- Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship
- Barcelona Graduate School of Mathematics Postdoctoral Fellowship
Oneto actively mentors students through the TensorDec Laboratory, which connects master's and graduate students to tensor decomposition research. He co-organizes major academic events including the INABAG Conference 2025 and TiME 2025 school, while securing support from MUR, CIRM-FBK, and INdAM-GNSAGA for collaborative initiatives.
Since 2020, the TensorDec Laboratory has served as Trento's hub for tensor decomposition research and training. Oneto co-maintains the MultilinearVerse portal (launched 2024), a comprehensive resource for tensor literature, and contributes to the Italian Network for Applied and Birational Algebraic Geometry (INABAG), fostering national collaboration among algebraic geometers.
