Alessandro Lai serves as Full Professor of Accounting at the Department of Business Administration, University of Verona since 2001. He holds significant administrative roles as delegate for external relations for the Department and Director of the Course preparing students for the profession of Chartered Accountant and Statutory Auditor.
His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Ca' Foscari of Venice (1988). Prior appointments include lecturer and Assistant professor at the Catholic University in Milan (1987-1992), and Associate professor of Accounting at the University of Milan (1992-1995) and Verona (1995-2001).
Professor Lai's research centers on Accounting History, Integrated Reporting, and Corporate Governance. His work examines accounting systems through historical perspectives and analyzes the implementation of integrated reporting frameworks. He publishes in top international journals including Accounting History, Accounting Auditing and Accountability Journal, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, Business Strategy and the Environment, and Journal of Management and Governance.
His research portfolio includes projects on sustainability reporting, integrated reporting for SMEs, business innovation & digital transformation, and risk management. He has coordinated national PRIN projects and participated in numerous funded research initiatives.
