Dr. Alessandro Corda is a Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice at Queen’s University Belfast’s School of Law, where he also served as Director of the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice (2021–2024). He holds a B.A. and J.D. from the University of Pavia (Italy), a Ph.D. in Criminal Law and Penal Policy (University of Pavia), and an LL.M. from NYU School of Law. His research focuses on criminal law, comparative criminal justice policies, sentencing, and the sociology of punishment, with an emphasis on the impact of technology on penal systems.
Key affiliations include Fellowships at the Robina Institute (Minnesota) and the Max Planck Institute (Freiburg), co-founding the Working Group on Collateral Consequences of Criminal Records (European Society of Criminology), and advisory roles at the Collateral Consequences Resource Center. He has held visiting professorships at Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona) and the University of Milan.
Research Trends: His work explores criminal record management, punitive technologies, and cross-national penal policies. Recent publications address privacy in expungement law, penal legitimacy, and interdisciplinary legal studies. He has been recognized with the Barbara Huber Scholarship (2025) and other distinctions.
