Alessandro Castagnaro

Alessandro Castagnaro is an Associate Professor of History of Architecture at the University Federico II of Naples and an Associate at CNR-IRISS since 2016. He holds a qualification as a Full Professor (ASN 2017). His roles include directing the editorial series 'Conservation and Restoration,' editing journals Op. Cit. and ANANKE (Class A), and serving on scientific committees. He leads the Critical Historical Research Laboratory at the Master's program 'Design of Excellence for the Historic City' and coordinates the Master's Degree in Design (DBE) at DiARC. He teaches at specialized schools in architectural and cultural heritage preservation in Naples and Siena.

His research focuses on architectural history, restoration, and contemporary architectural theory. Key contributions include monographs analyzing historical architectural education, 20th-century architects like Ferdinando Chiaromonte, and transitions to contemporary design. He has successfully led major restoration projects, winning competitions for the Temple-Duomo of Pozzuoli (2003) and the Santa Maria della Pace Hospital Complex (2015), as well as leading the RAI Auditorium renovation (2004).
