Alessandro Balbo is a PhD Student in Energetics (39th cycle, 2023-2026) and Research Fellow at the Department of Energy (DENERG), Politecnico di Torino. His primary affiliation is with the MAHTEP Research Group within DENERG.
His research focuses on energy systems with particular emphasis on hydrogen energy, decarbonization strategies, and the integration of sustainable development goals into energy policy. He utilizes open-source energy system optimization models to analyze the role of hydrogen in achieving national decarbonization targets, especially in the Italian context.
Recent publications demonstrate a trend towards interdisciplinary research combining energy policy, technological innovation in power transmission (such as superconducting pipelines for hydrogen and electricity), and sustainable development.
