معرفی
Alessandro Piovano is a Fixed-term Assistant Professor at the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT) at Politecnico di Torino, Italy. He is affiliated with the College of Chemical and Materials Engineering and conducts research within the GAME Laboratory. His academic work focuses on advanced materials for energy applications, particularly in the field of electrochemical energy storage systems.
Dr. Piovano's research interests span across several critical areas of modern materials science, with a strong emphasis on Advanced Materials, Batteries, and Electrochemistry. His work specifically targets innovative solutions for developing advanced high ionic conduction systems, with applications in sustainable energy technologies. His research aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals including Affordable and Clean Energy (Goal 7), Responsible Consumption and Production (Goal 12), and Climate Action (Goal 13).
His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on sustainable energy storage solutions, particularly in the development of novel battery components using eco-friendly and recycled materials. The research trends show increasing emphasis on circular economy approaches in battery technology, with particular attention to lignin-based materials, sustainable binders, and recycled components for both lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery systems. His work bridges fundamental materials science with practical applications for greener energy storage.
Dr. Piovano serves as a PhD supervisor for the Materials Science and Technology program at Politecnico di Torino, currently mentoring two doctoral students: Matteo Milanesi (39th cycle, 2023-present) and Silvia Porporato (37th cycle, 2021-2025). Silvia Porporato's thesis focuses on "Advanced, Sustainable Materials and Components for Energy Storage Systems." He is also involved in the competitive research project BIOMAPS (BIO-INTELLIGENT MANUFACTURING OF MULTIFUNCTIONAL BIOBASED POLYMER SYSTEMS), funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe program (2025-2028).
Within the GAME Laboratory at DISAT, Dr. Piovano contributes to research on advanced materials for electrochemical applications. His work integrates multiple disciplines including materials characterization, electrochemistry, and nanotechnology to develop next-generation energy storage solutions that address pressing environmental challenges while maintaining high performance standards.
