Alessandra Campana is an Associate Professor of Music at Tufts University, affiliated with the School of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Music. Her research examines the intersection of sound, vision, and performance in opera and film, with particular focus on Italian theatrical traditions.
Research interests encompass opera staging practices, soundtrack aesthetics, silent film aurality, and the politics of synchronization. Current work involves destabilizing classical film theory through soundscape analysis and investigating perceptual interfaces between music, theater, and spectatorship.
Publications primarily explore historical spectatorship in Italian opera, visual-verbal relationships in stage manuals, and critical analyses of works by Mozart, Verdi, and Puccini. Her scholarship bridges musicology, film studies, and performance theory.
