Aleksandrs Fillers is an Associate Professor at Riga Graduate School of Law, serving since 2019 initially as an Assistant Professor before promotion to Associate Professor in 2023. Since 2025, he has concurrently held the position of Masters Programme Director. Complementing his academic roles, he maintains an active legal practice initiated in 2013.
Dr. Fillers holds a comprehensive legal education: PhD in Law from the University of Antwerp (2019), Master of Law from University of Latvia (2014), a joint European Master of Transnational Law and Finance from Deusto University, Tilburg University, and Strasbourg University (2013), LL.M. from Stockholm University (2011), and Bachelor of Law from University of Latvia (2009). His professional experience includes lectureships at Karel de Grote University College Antwerp (2019) and research positions at University of Antwerp (2015-2019).
His research explores critical dimensions of EU Private International Law, International Commercial Law, and Latvian Civil Law, with emphasis on cross-border legal frameworks, arbitration mechanisms, and commercial dispute resolution. Recent work analyzes jurisdictional challenges, contractual enforcement under international conventions, and the evolution of private law in post-Soviet jurisdictions.
Dr. Fillers' publications demonstrate sustained focus on international legal instruments (CISG, CMR, Brussels Regulations) and their application in national contexts. His scholarship routinely addresses contract performance, corporate mobility within the EU, arbitration law, and civil remedies across 35+ peer-reviewed articles and book chapters published between 2011-2024.
