Aleksandra (Sasha) Drozzina is an Assistant Professor of Music Theory at The Ohio State University's School of Music, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. She joined the faculty in autumn 2024. Her expertise spans Music Theory, Russian/Soviet Music, and Russian/Soviet Music Theory. She holds a PhD in Music Theory from Louisiana State University (2020), an MA in Music Theory from the University of Toronto (2016), and a BMus with Piano Major and History/Theory Specialization from the University of Toronto (2013).
Her research focuses on Soviet-era musical works, particularly religious and spiritual compositions by Schnittke, Gubaidulina, and Pärt during the Late Thaw and Perestroika periods. She has presented at conferences like the Society for Music Theory and Canadian University Music Society. Currently, she chairs the Russian Music Theory Interest Group at SMT.
Previously, she served as a Lecturer in Music Theory and coordinator of music theory/aural perception programs at Purdue University–Fort Wayne. Her sole published article (2021) examines cultural downfalls in modern Russia through a musical lens. No awards are listed, though her work highlights interdisciplinary connections between music and socio-political contexts.
