Aleid Elizabeth Brouwer is an Assistant Professor in Economic Geography at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Spatial Sciences. Her research focuses on sustainable entrepreneurship, ageing in place, digital inclusion, and regional development. She employs mixed methods, with a preference for quantitative analysis using survey and panel data.

Her work addresses the wellbeing of entrepreneurs, housing strategies for older adults, and the role of digital engagement in local environments. Recent publications analyze regional inequalities, IT labor markets, and future scenarios for northern Netherlands. She supervises PhD students and contributes to educational committees, including the Research Master’s program. Awards include the Aletta Jacobs Research Fellow title. Brouwer also develops innovative teaching tools like the Virtual Fieldwork app.
