Aldona Sendzikas is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Western University. She holds a PhD from the University of Hawai'i (2002). Her research focuses on 20th-century U.S. military history, submarine service during WWII, prisoner-of-war experiences, and Cold War cultural dynamics. She has conducted extensive work on navy life through oral histories and authored notable books including Lucky 73: USS Pampanito’s Unlikely Rescue of Allied POWs in WWII and Stanley Barracks: Toronto's Military Legacy, which won Heritage Toronto's Award of Merit.
Education:
- PhD in History, University of Hawai'i, 2002
Research Projects: Currently compiling an anthology of first-person navy life accounts and researching women's wartime experiences through correspondence. Additional projects include a biography of Col. Reginald Symonds Timmis and a study of Operation Desert Storm souvenirs.
Professional Experience: Previously taught American Studies at the University of Hawai'i and U.S. History at Chaminade University. Curatorial roles include Assistant Curator at Historic Fort York, USS Bowfin Submarine Museum, and USS Pampanito.
