Alberto Villanueva is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Architecture and Built Environment at Ravensbourne University London. A registered architect (ARB) and fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and Higher Education Academy (FHEA), his career spans international projects in architecture, design, and public engagement across Spain, South Korea, China, Slovenia, Italy, France, UAE, the USA, and even conceptual work on Mars. He leads the IDEA Architecture Office, an interdisciplinary studio focused on digital crafting, sustainability, and social impact.
His educational background includes a Master of Architecture (MArch), a Master of Arts (MA), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
Alberto's research explores the transformative potential of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital fabrication, and bio-based materials within architecture and design. He investigates cultural heritage through anthropology and spatial practice, focusing on how built environments shape collective memory. His work aims to bridge technological innovation with human-centered values for inclusive and sustainable futures.
Recent research outputs (2024-2025) demonstrate a strong trend towards integrating AI in urban development, co-creation of community narratives, and designing protest spaces. These projects address urgent challenges of sustainability, social cohesion, and urban resilience through interdisciplinary collaboration.
