Alberto Severini

Alberto Severini, MD, is an Assistant Professor at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba, with cross appointments in the College of Pharmacy. He serves as Chief of the Viral Exanthemata and STD Section at the National Microbiology Laboratory (Public Health Agency of Canada).

Education

His research focuses on the molecular epidemiology of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs), particularly measles, mumps, rubella, and human papillomaviruses (HPV). He investigates HPV vaccine effectiveness, HPV variant associations with cancer risk, and post-vaccination immunity trends. His lab specializes in whole-genome sequencing for outbreak mapping and seroepidemiology studies to assess population immunity levels.
