Alberto Godioli is an Associate Professor in European Culture and Literature at the University of Groningen, with Ius Promovendi rights. He serves as Programme Director of the Netherlands Research School for Literary Studies (OSL) and leads the NWO Vidi-funded project 'Humor in Court' (2022–2027), exploring legal interpretations of humor in free speech cases. His research bridges humor studies, law, and modernism, with a focus on interdisciplinary frameworks for judicial practice.

His work includes co-editing Humor and the Law: The Difficulty of Judging Jests (2022) and founding the Forum for Humor and the Law (ForHum). He collaborates with UNESCO, the European Court of Human Rights, and other institutions to develop tools for assessing humor in legal contexts.
