Alberto Burgio is a Full Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Bologna, specializing in the History of Philosophy (PHIL-05/A). His academic career includes roles as Associate Professor (1993–2000) and Full Professor (2000–present), alongside political service as a Member of the Italian Parliament (2006–2008) and Department Director (2009–2011). He holds degrees in Modern Literature (Pavia, 1978) and Philosophy (Università Statale di Milano, 1983), with research tenure at the University of Urbino (1989).
His research focuses on political philosophy, philosophy of history, and critical studies of racism and Nazism. Key themes include modern contractualism (Rousseau), German idealism (Kant, Hegel), Marxist theory (Marx, Labriola, Gramsci), and the intersection of philosophical thought with socio-economic dynamics. His work analyzes modernity's contradictions, particularly through the lens of universalism vs. discrimination.
